Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra has raised the question as to why Jaspreet Bumrah’s participation in the Test series against England was made public. Chopra believes that Team India should have kept this information confidential, so that the England team stayed in confusion and it would be difficult for them to guess which matches Bumrah would play.

Bumrah’s plan was already told

India’s coaches Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill had said in the press conference before the series started that Bumrah will play only three Test matches. He repeated the same thing even after the defeat in the headingley. On this, Chopra said that when the team was not announced, Bumrah’s planning was disclosed again and again.

Chopra believes that if Bumrah also plays the second Test, then the remaining three will play in only one match. In such a situation, England comes to know that the most dangerous bowler will not be in the rest of the matches, so that they can prepare the pitch accordingly.

Akash Chopra further said that India will now have to prepare a generation of new fast bowlers. Bumrah’s availability is suspected, Mohammed Shami’s career is almost towards the end and Mohammad Siraj is also not able to perform as expected.

He also praised the bowling of Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in Lord’s Test and said that Team India had two main reasons for success in foreign countries – scoring batsmen and taking 20 wickets from bowlers. But now that the position of Shami and Bumrah is not clear, it can become a big challenge.
