Former cricketer Dodda Ganesh has suggested a new role for Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant. According to him, the southpaw should not keep wickets in the second Test of the ongoing five-match series against England. He mentioned that it would be a good idea to play the star player as a pure batter.

The 51-year-old feels India should add Dhruv Jurel to the playing XI as a wicketkeeper. He thinks it would take load off the player’s shoulders.

“Won’t be a bad idea to hand over the wicket keeping duties to Jurel and play Pant as a pure batter. Thoughts?,” he wrote on X.

Team India vice-captain Rishabh Pant scored consecutive hundreds in the recently concluded Leeds Test. He is the first Indian wicket-keeper to amass two tons in a Test, recording 134 and 118.

However, his efforts went in vain as England won the contest by 5 wickets. The hosts completed the 371-run target on Day 5.

Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel played two unofficial Tests against England Lions. He looked in fine touch for India A. Jurel accumulated 94 and 53* in the first game, while he managed 53 and 28 in the second contest. His Test debut came against England in February 2024 and has 202 runs in six innings at an average of 40.40.
