As the Frank Worrell Trophy moves to its second act at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada, the Roston Chase-led West Indies will be desperate to script a comeback against Australia after a bruising 159-run defeat in the series opener.
The first Test highlighted the gulf in consistency and composure between the two sides. While Australia exhibited their trademark discipline with the bat and ruthless precision with the ball, the Windies squandered opportunities that could have altered the trajectory of the match. Travis Head emerged as Australia’s standout performer, crafting gritty half-centuries in both innings to anchor their totals and set the platform for their bowlers to dominate. For the West Indies, the challenge is not just about rebounding from the defeat but doing so with character, clarity, and control.
The surface at National Cricket Stadium provides equal assistance to both batters and bowlers. The track provides good bounce and carry to batters, and the ball comes nicely onto the bat as the game progresses. However, spinners are also expected to receive some help from the pitch due to its slow nature. Meanwhile, seamers will completely rely on their ability to bowl in the right areas with no movement from the track. Considering the conditions and past records at the Kensington Oval, the team winning the toss will prefer to bowl first.
