Former players are backing Rishabh Pant to be Team India’s main wicker-keeper in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. However, the southpaw is still searching for form in the Indian Premier League 2024. He hit a couple of fifties in the 17th season, but the failure to convert them into match-winning contributions has put Delhi Capitals in trouble.
Although he is maintaining a strike rate of 150 in the ongoing season of the tournament, his career strike rate in T20Is is below 130.
Former India player Mohammad Kaif feels that Pant will have to play an inning like Yashasvi Jaiswal if he wants to be a part of the Playing XI in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
“Rishabh Pant’s biggest problem has been his strike rate in T20Is. You can’t score runs at a strike rate of below 130 in international matches. He needs to work on that. Although he has shown some form in this IPL season, the big score is still missing from his bat.
“He needs an impactful innings like the one Yashasvi Jaiswal played against Mumbai Indians. If he wants to play for India in the T20 World Cup, a better performance is required. He is not consistent at the moment,” Mohammad Kaif said on Star Sports.
“Sanju Samson has done well for Rajasthan Royals and he is in direct competition with Pant,” he added.
The southpaw was out of cricket for 15 months due to a fatal car accident and only made a return to action to play for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. He missed the last season of the cash-rich league.
