Discussion on whether India should feed Jasprit Bumrah in the fourth Test is intensified. David Lloyd has advised coach Gautam Gambhir that if India wants to win, it is necessary to include Bumrah in the team, especially when the series has now reached the decisive turn.
Delhi: Discussions about the availability of Jaspreet Bumrah before the fourth Test starting on July 23 in Manchester between India and England are intensified. Former England batsman and well-known commentator David Lloyd has advised the Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir on this issue.
India lost by 22 runs in the third Test at Lord’s. In this match too, Bumrah took five wickets, but the team did not win. Earlier, his five -wicket performance in the headingley also went in vain. Now India is behind 1-2 in the series.
Lloyd says that Gambhir should reconsider his plan regarding Bumrah. He said, “Gambhir had earlier said that Bumrah will play only three Tests. Now there are two and India has lost. If Bumrah plays in Manchester and India wins, then he will have to feed in the Oval Test too.”
Lloyd further said, “If England is ahead 3–1, Bumrah will probably get rest. But if the series is 2-2, India will field him again.”
Lloyd also spoke on Bumrah’s figures. He said that some reports show that India wins more matches without Bumrah. But these figures are cheating.
Since his debut in 2018, India has won 19 out of 27 Tests without Bumrah. At the same time, he has got 20 wins in 47 matches played with him. But the thing to note is that without Bumrah, most of India’s victories have won on domestic pitches.
The real influence of Bumrah appears in the SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia). Here India has won only two Tests without Bumrah. At the same time, India has won 10 in 33 Tests in SENA with Bumrah, which is about 30 percent winning figures.
Bumrah’s presence gives India an edge on sharp pitches. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether they play in the fourth Test or the team gives them rest again.
