Former India strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai said that managing Jasprit Bumrah’s workload is not easy, and long-term planning is required. Bumrah is the best bowler in the world, but he has missed big tournaments due to injuries. He was not part of the team in the 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. He injured his back during the fifth T20 against Australia and was out of action for a few months.

The Indian team management is not taking a risk with Bumrah. Before the tour of England, head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill had revealed that Bumrah would play in three out of the five Tests.

The 31-year-old competed in the series opener and the third red-ball match and was rested from the Edgbaston contest. There is no information available on the possibility of his participation in the fourth Test. The Indian National Cricket Team is trailing by 1-2, and the decision-makers may include him in the playing XI and rest him for the fifth match at The Oval.

Desaim, who worked with Jasprit Bumrah during his early days, mentioned that he should be prepared for the key series while his workload can be managed in other bilateral matches.

“Bumrah needs to be handle with care. A team needs to take care of Bumrah and prepare him for surgical strikes a few times in a year and take care of workload at other times. I know him for a long time,” he told the Indian Express.

He urged everyone to work together to keep Bumrah injury-free. “Jasprit Bumrah is an asset and a special guy. He has worked hard to reach this level. A collective effort is needed to manage a player like him,” he added.
