Ruturaj Gaikwad has pulled out of his county stint with Yorkshire for personal reasons. Yorkshire County Cricket Club confirmed his withdrawal on Friday (July 18). Gaikwad, who was originally scheduled to début for his county against Surrey on July 22, will not be travelling to England. It is unclear what prompted his withdrawal. Anthony McGrath, the head coach of Yorkshire, was disappointed that Gaikwad was not part of their team.

“Unfortunately, Gaikwad won’t be available now due to personal reasons. He won’t be with us for Scarborough or the rest of the season, which is disappointing. I can’t share the details behind it, but we hope everything is alright. We’ve only just found out and are working behind the scenes to figure out what we can do. With just two or three days left, we’re unsure what can be done at this point. We’re trying to arrange a replacement, but time is a major factor. That’s all I can share for now,” McGrath said.

“Dom picked up a slight niggle during the Roses game, so we took precautions with him. Jonny’s partner is due to give birth any time now, so we send our best wishes to him and his family. We’re still uncertain about his availability for Scarborough.”

Gaikwad was supposed to play for Yorkshire in List A games in addition to five first-class matches, however he will no longer be joining the club. The right-handed batter hasn’t appeared in a competitive match since April 8. He led the Chennai Super Kings in the first phase of the IPL 2025 before being injured due to an elbow injury.

Gaikwad went to England with the India A squad but did not play in the unofficial Test series. The five-match Test series began with him playing in the intra-squad match.
