The CSK pacer Anshul Kamboj has been added to the India Squad as Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep have developed injuries ahead of the fourth test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
The 25 year old has caught attention of the national selection committee after a successful domestic season where he picked 79 wickets and 486 runs in 24 first class games for Haryana.
He also made an impressive stint with India A claiming five wickets in two games against England Lions.
Last season, Kamboj claimed 10-wicket haul in Ranji Trophy innings, becoming the third cricketer to do so after Premangsu Chatterjee and pradeep Sunderram.
With Arshdeep Singh likely to take another 10 days to recover and Akash Deep picking up a groin niggle. Accoring to reports, “There are high chances that Anshul could also be in line for his debut with pacer Akash Deep, who also limped off during the Lord’s Test.”
Anshul Kamboj who made his IPL debut in 2024 for Mumbai Indians and was part of the Chennai Super Kings setup in IPL 2025.
“Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep won’t be playing together in the remaining two Tests,” the source added.
“It was decided before the tour that Bumrah will only play three Tests in this series, and now with Akash’s back niggle flaring up, we can’t see both of them playing in the XI together.”
“If Bumrah plays in Manchester, then Akash will sit out. At The Oval, Akash will replace Bumrah,” the source added.
Meanwhile India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has pointed out Arshdeep’s injury would impact India’s planning, and Akash Deep’s injury has worsened their situation.
The upcoming match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy will be crucial for both the sides as India will be aiming for a win to draw the series. However if England edges the visitors, Shubman Gill‘s side will lose the series.
The fourth test will be played between July 23 and 27 at Old Trafford Cricket StadiumManchester.
