Delhi: India’s 25 -year -old star off -spinner Washington Sundar, who started his career with the Brisbane Test against Australia in 2021, has not been able to get much opportunities in the red ball cricket so far. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has appreciated Sundar fiercely. India’s turning pitches should have been given more opportunity

Shastri believes that Sundar should have played more Test matches than the red ball on India’s turning pitches. He further said, “He is just 25 years old. I think he should have played more Test cricket. In India, where the ball is spin, he can prove to be extremely effective. He performed brilliantly against New Zealand and bowled better than many senior spinners. He is also a great batsman.”

Washington took 16 wickets in four innings in the domestic Test series against New Zealand in 2024, which is a clear proof of his ability.

Shastri also praised Washington’s batting and said that he should get a chance in the top order, not in the lower order. The former all -rounder said, “He is a talented batsman. He is not just the number eight batsman, but can also come soon at number six.”
