Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the remaining part of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy after a toe fracture. He was injured on Day 1 of the Manchester Test against England after a yorker-length delivery from Chris Woakes hit his foot.

He was trying to play a reserve sweep but missed the ball completely.

The vice-captain of the Indian National Cricket Team was in pain as the physio treated him on the field. The 27-year-old was unable to put any weight on his foot and was taken off the field.

Pant has been ruled out of the series after scans confirmed a toe fracture. The wicketkeeper has been told to rest for six weeks.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan wants the introduction of substitutes to manage injuries. He feels it is not fair to have a competition between 10 players and 11 players.

However, former player Parthiv Patel didn’t like Vaughan’s suggestion.

“There are a few grey areas that teams are exploiting. Teams are misusing concussion rule. I think we shouldn’t change any rule. The rule has already been changed, and a substitute wicket-keeper can replace the designated keeper in case of an injury,” Parthiv Patel said.

“Someone would keep wickets, but I’m okay with the rule.

It’s unfortunate that Rishabh Pant has been injured but you can’t do anything,” he added.
