The former Indian cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy has announced retirement from Professional Cricket via a social media post, thanking fans who walked along with her cricketing journey.
The 32-year-old has made 124 appearances across ODI and T20I formats, making her last appearance in the India jersey during the 2020 T20 World Cup final against Australia.
Krishnamurthy has played 48 ODIs and amassed 829 runs at an average of 25.90. She has also represented India in 76 T20Is scoring 875 runs at an average of 18.61.
“From a small-town girl with big dreams to wearing the India jersey with pride. Grateful for everything cricket gave me the lessons, the people, the memories.”
“It’s time to say goodbye to playing, but not to the game. Always for India. Always for the team,” she added.
Making her debut at the age of 18 against England in June 2011, Veda made an impact with a brilliant 51 and went on to play key roles in many games. Her memorable games comes in the game in 2017 World Cup semi-final against Australia, where her 45-ball 70 helped India to advance to finals
She was regulars in T20 squads until the 2020 World T20 finals in Australia, which marked her last international appearance.
In domestic cricket she was part of Gujarat in 2023 edition of the Women’s Premier League.
Beyond the field, Krishnamurthy’s journery has also been marked by personal tragedy. During the COVID 19 pandemic, she lost her mother, Cheluvamaba Devi, and her sister, Vatsala Shivakumar, within a short span.
Her resilience through that difficult period made her a symbol of strength within cricket community.
She got married to former Karnataka cricketer Arjun Hoysala, Krishanmurthy now transitions into the next phase of her journey and will remain rooted in game, even if not with bat in hand.
