Overview:

This incident marked the first time in 42 years that India had lost two batters, who failed to score a run in a Test match.

In the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester, India were reduced to 0/2 in their second innings. England posted 669 runs, gaining a 311-run lead. India needed a strong start with the bat. However, they lost two wickets in the first over.

Chris Woakes struck twice in consecutive deliveries, giving England the perfect start.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the first wicket to fall, edging the ball to the slip. Sai Sudharsan was caught by Harry Brook, handing Woakes a double-wicket maiden and leaving India in deep trouble.

This incident marked the first time in 42 years that India had lost two batters, who failed to score a run in a Test match. The last occurrence was in 1983, when Sunil Gavaskar was moved down to number four, with Anshuman Gaekwad and Navjot Singh Sidhu opening the batting, followed by Dilip Vengsarkar at number three.

Both Gaekwad and Vengsarkar failed to get off the mark in that match, forcing Gavaskar to bat earlier than planned. It was also the same match where Viv Richards, in his characteristic style, sledged Gavaskar. No matter where you bat, the score is still 0.

Despite the early loss of wickets, India fought back. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill took on the responsibility of rebuilding the innings.
