Navjot Singh Sidhu suggested India should position Jadeja at number five, Jurel as wicketkeeper at six, and Sundar at seven.

Former India opener Navjot Singh Sidhu has suggested India’s pace attack for the fifth Test against England, starting Thursday, July 31, at The Oval, if Jasprit Bumrah is unavailable.

Bumrah, who was planned to feature in only three Tests as part of workload management, might be given rest for the final match. Sidhu recommended Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna as three pacers, while Kuldeep Yadav should also come in.

“In the team’s best interest, I believe Kuldeep should replace Anshul Kamboj or Shardul Thakur. It’s not personal against anyone. Anshul will gain experience, but the priority is to win for India, not just develop players. Shardul also didn’t deliver. The wicket at The Oval will be hard, and a spinner could become crucial on days three and four. Ensure the batting line-up extends to seven.”

“If Bumrah plays, that’s great, but with just three days, he might need to rest. In that case, your bowling attack should include Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna, along with Kuldeep. Also, ensure Washington and Jadeja bowl. That way, it will feel like you’re playing to win,” he said.

Rishabh Pant will miss the fifth Test, with N Jagadeesan taking his place in the squad. Navjot Singh Sidhu suggested India should position Jadeja at number five, Jurel as wicketkeeper at six, and Sundar at seven.

“India must go for the win and take control of the match. This is achievable. If Dhruv Jurel is selected at number six for the next match, Jadeja could be shifted to number five. That gives you an option. Consider Jadeja as a pure batter. Play Washington Sundar at number seven,” he added.

Following a draw in the fourth Test, India now has a chance to equalise the series, which is currently 2-1 in favour of England.

Navjot Singh Sidhu’s India 11 for 5th Test: Shubman Gill (C), Kl Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Ravindra Jadeja, Akash Deep, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Kuldeep YADAR, Kuldeep YADAV, Mohammed Siraj, Prazidhh
Krishna.
