India and England players are going hard against each other in the ongoing five-match series. There have been verbal exchanges, with both teams trying to win the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. England are leading 2-1, and the fifth Test is currently underway at The Oval.
On Day 2, Ben Duckett was given a send-off after being dismissed by pacer Akash Deep, who put his arm around the batter’s shoulders. The southpaw kept his cool and was hailed by England’s assistant coach Marcus Trescothick. He felt that Akash was lucky not to have received a response from Duckett.
“Many players in my time would have dropped an elbow on him. I have not seen a bowler do that after getting someone out,” he said.
The assistant coach said Duckett did his job for the team and was right in calmly walking off the field.
“Bowlers from both sides have reacted in this series, but what Akash did was different. I was joking about it. Ben doesn’t say anything and believes in doing his job. There was no need to give him a send-off in that fashion.”
It was not the only incident, as Joe Root and Prasidh Krishna also had a go at each other. Krishna didn’t say much about his fight with the former England captain.
“It was a small thing. We are good mates off the field. It was banter and we both enjoyed it,” he said.
