R Ashwin has hit out at the Indian team for their strategy in the fifth and final Test against England, saying the visitors lacked game awareness. England need 35 runs while India need 4 wickets for a win. Harry Brook and Joe Root smashed hundreds against the Indian National Cricket Team, but a fall of a few wickets brought the sub-continent nation back into the contest.
Ashwin was not pleased with India’s decision not to give the ball to Washington Sundar early when Brook and Root scored runs. Ashwin feels Sundar would have stopped the flow of runs.
“Spinners haven’t been used properly in this series. The Indian team’s lack of game awareness and tactical acumen has given England a lead. We have lacked sharpness,” Ravichandran Ashwin said.
“Shubman Gill will learn as a captain and get better. But sometimes you feel you can play spin well, so you don’t bring spinners into the attack. Then a spinner becomes a defensive option,” he added.

“When Harry Brook started going after the bowlers, you should have given the ball to Sundar to stop the runs. Washington Sundar could have done a job for you,” he added.
“Making these mistakes is not right. I don’t know what message was sent from the dressing room to the players. We are not aware whether dressing room talks or not. In today’s world, you can avoid these mistakes,” he concluded.
