Mohammed Siraj’s five-wicket haul, including three wickets in the final day of the fifth test, has helped India to post a 6-run victory at The Kia Oval.

By this win, India drew 2-2 level in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which marks the beginning of India’s new chapter under the captaincy of Shubman Gill.

A blazing century from Harry Brook and a composed hundred from Joe Root went in vain as England’s quest to pull off the highest successful chase at the venue in 123 years collapsed in the first session on Day 05.

Mohammed Siraj struck thrice within an hour and completed his 5th five-wicket haul of his Test career to level the series.

India posted 396 runs in their second innings on Saturday, with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 118 runs while Jadeja and Sundar smashing fifties to set a target of 374 runs. No teams had ever chased these many runs in the fourth innings of a Test at The Oval.

England went on to score 339 runs by the end of day 04 with knocks from Harry Brook and Joe Root.

Resuming on day 05, England needed only 35 runs with only four wickets in hands. Jamie Overton and Jamie Smith resumed play while Chris Woakes ruled out of the Test due to a shoulder injury sustained during India’s first innings was spotted practicing left-handed batting on the sidelines.

Chris Woakes did come out to bat at end, practically one-handed and although he assisted Gus Atkinson in taking England close towards victory, they fell short of six runs.

He picked Jamie Smith’s wicket edging behind to Dhruv Jurel. One ball later, Gus Atkinson edged just short of KL Rahul.

In his next over, he trapped Jamie Overton LBW with a delivery that just clipped leg stump, upheld on umpire’s call.

Prasidh Krishna almost Josh Tongue on a LBW, but the review saved him. However, there was no denying him a couple of overs later when he bowled Tongue with a ripper.

England was down to their last wicket, needing 11 runs. Chris Woakes walked in and stunned everyone by batting left-handed and with only one hand after injuring his right shoulder diving on Day 01.

Gus Atkinson trying to protect Chris Woakes, smashed Mohammed Siraj for a six but couldn’t survive much longer. Having picked the last wicket Siraj sparked wild celebrations with India levelling the series.
