Aakash Chopra has commended Mohammed Siraj for his standout performance during the fifth Test against England. He compared Siraj with James Anderson and Mohammad Shami.
Siraj finished with remarkable figures of 5 wickets for 104 runs from 30.1 overs in England’s second innings at The Oval. His efforts played a key role in India’s six-run victory, as England were dismissed for 367 on Day 5.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra,’ the former opening batsman stressed that Siraj deserves greater recognition.
“Are we giving him enough recognition? While appreciation is important, this guy truly deserves to be celebrated. Sometimes, we focus so much on exceptional skills, and the hardworking ones get overlooked. Siraj is one of those hard-working cricketers who invests both his body and mind into the game,” Chopra said.
“He definitely has the skills. The way the ball was coming out of his hands this time, the seam was perfectly upright. If I only showed you the seam, you’d assume it was either Jimmy Anderson or Mohammad Shami. The seam was perfectly upright, and the ball was swinging. Then, he slightly scrambles the seam, increases the speed by three to five kmph, and it hits the pads,” he added.
On the last day of the Oval Test, Siraj claimed three wickets. He sent Jamie Smith (2 off 20) and Jamie Overton (9 off 17) back to the pavilion, and then bowled Gus Atkinson (17 off 29).
