Gambhir’s only Test series win came against Bangladesh at home.
Dinesh Karthik is not pleased with how India head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill selected the team during the Test series against England. Karthik said that Gambhir is calling the shots and must be ready to accept credit and flak.
The young Indian team achieved a 2-2 draw in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The visitors were 1-2 down heading into the fifth and final Test, but they scripted a memorable 6-run win at the Oval.
Karthik opined that Gambhir must think about his selection policies as bowling needs strengthening.
“He has full control of the team and is a driving force. Besides thinking about the batting depth, he should be serious about taking 20 wickets. He has been terrific in white-ball cricket but is still learning in Test format,” Dinesh Karthik told Cricbuzz.
“The team for the England series was not picked to lose. Gambhir will be responsible for everything. If it performs well, credit to him; if it doesn’t, he should put his hands up and say, We made a mistake,” he added.
Gambhir’s only Test series win came against Bangladesh at home. New Zealand registered a historic 3-0 victory over India in the sub-continent, while Australia defeated the Rohit Sharma-led team by 3-1. The Indian National Cricket Team failed to reach the final of the WTC for the first time.
