In what promises to be an exciting early-season clash, the Manchester Originals will face the Southern Brave in Match 2 of The Women’s Hundred 2025. The second game of the season will take place at Old Trafford, Manchester.
After a disappointing 2024 season where they finished sixth, the Originals are looking for a fresh start under new captain Beth Mooney. The Australian wicketkeeper-batter, a world-class performer, brings a wealth of international experience and a calm presence to the team. Mooney was a key player for the Originals last season, and her form has been exceptional leading into the tournament, with a prolific run-scoring record in 2025 domestic cricket. The Originals’ squad also features other formidable talents like New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr and the world’s number one T20I bowler, Sophie Ecclestonewho will be a crucial asset to the bowling unit. The team will be looking to capitalize on their previous success against the Southern Brave, having won three out of four matches last season.
The Brave, on the other hand, will be eager to rebound from a tough 2024 campaign that saw them finish at the bottom of the table. Despite their struggles last season, the Brave have a consistently competitive squad, led by captain Georgia Adams. They have a powerful top order featuring explosive opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge and the newly acquired Laura Wolveswho was the leading run-scorer for the Originals last season. The Brave’s bowling attack is spearheaded by the talented Lauren Bell, who will be looking to make an early impact. With a mix of established international names like Sophie Devine and dynamic all-rounders such as Chloe TryonBrave have the firepower to turn their fortunes around.
The pitch at Old Trafford for The Women’s Hundred 2025 is expected to be a balanced surface, offering something for both batters and bowlers. Historically, the ground has been known to assist pace and bounce, but more recently, it has evolved into a surface that favors slow-paced play.
