Delhi: Former Indian coach Greg Chappell believes that Mohammad Siraj is now fully ready to become the real leader of Team India’s bowling. Whether Jasprit Bumrah is in the team or not, Siraj has proved himself as a leader with his performance.
Siraj played an important role in winning India by bowling brilliantly on the fifth day of the Oval Test. With this victory, India made the series equal. In this match, Bumrah did not play as he was rested under the workload management.
In the entire Test series, Siraj took a total of 185.3 overs and became the highest wicket bowler with 23 wickets. Chappell wrote in his column in Espncricinfo that Siraj’s performance in the Oval Test was his career turning point.
Chappell said, “Siraj has done many best performances before – in MCG, Gaba, Perth, Lords, Cape Town and Birmingham. But what he did at the oval shows his true maturity. Now he is not just with passion, but is bowling with the purpose. The same difference is in the player and the leader.”
Even though the batsmen, especially under the leadership of Shubman Gill, scored a lot of runs, but according to the chapel, the real game changer for India was Siraj. He wrote, “Despite many great batting efforts, Siraj was the reason why India remained firmly in the series.”
Chappell also praised the ability of Siraj, in which he takes out his best performance at the right time. He wrote, “He bowled like a bowler who was not only obsessed, but also intelligent. He has learned to handle himself and has understood at what time to affect the most.”
Chappell further said, “It is not easy to throw more than 185 overs in five Test matches within six weeks. That too when your team’s star bowler Bumrah is not playing in many matches. Siraj’s attempt is really like a hero.”
Mohammad Siraj was adjudged Man of the Match to take nine wickets in the Oval Test. His performance not only caused India’s victory, but also made him the leader of the Indian bowling attack.
