Concerns around Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness and workload continue to trouble both the Indian team management and the BCCI. Despite India engaging in a tough five-match Test series against England, Bumrah was deliberately selected for only three matches part of a broader strategy to manage his physical demands.

A report published by The Indian Express revealed that the team’s decision-makers are fully united in their intention to protect Jasprit Bumrah’s long-term health. Their main objective is to ensure he remains available and in peak condition for key international events.

Rather than risking his fitness in less important games, the management is focused on having Bumrah ready for marquee tournaments, especially the ICC competitions and high-profile series. The T20 World Cup, set to be held in India during February and March 2026, has emerged as a major priority.

Both chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir made it clear that Bumrah’s involvement in the England Test series would be for three matches.

India’s win in two Tests without Jasprit Bumrah in England has reinforced the decision to manage his workload. Mohammed Siraj claimed 23 wickets across five Tests, while Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna took 13 and 14 wickets in three matches.

Although Bumrah has expressed his readiness to play all formats, the BCCI’s medical team has cautioned him.

“The medical team is actively involved, and when it comes to a match-winner like Bumrah, every possible measure is being taken to keep him fit,” a BCCI source said.
