The Maharaja T20 2025 has been moved to Mysuru after the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) failed to obtain clearance from the Bengaluru franchise-based T20 competition at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Last month, a committee tasked by the state government to investigate the stampede deemed the Chinnaswamy unsafe for large-scale events.
The commission ‘strongly recommended’ that large-scal events be relocated to venues that are better suited to handle significant crowds.
The Maharaja T20s were supposed to be held closed doors in Bengaluru. But once the committee’s ruling came in, getting permission to play at the Chinnaswamy – with or without a crowd became untenable.
They have been putting up makeshifts stands, preparing pitches squares as well as temporary broadcast facilities at the Wadeyar stadium.
The T20 tournament is set to feature a number of high-profile Karnataka stars, including Karun Nair and Prasidh Krishna who will features for Mysuru Warriors following their return from India’s Test series in England.
Nair is set to have injured his finger while batting in the second innings of the fifth test and likely to sit out for the first few matches.
Meanwhile Prasidh Krishna picked up eight wickets in India’s series-levelling win at The Oval. The pacer is set to join the squad in the mid of the tournament.
Some of the big players like, Manish Pandey, Mayank Agarwal, and Devdutt padikkal as well as the youngster R Smaran, Vijaykumar Vyshak, KV Anessh and Nikin Jose will be featuring in the tournament.
According to reports, this franhcise is to make temporary but quick arrangements for the teams to practice and stay as the venue remained an issue in this season. However, this has also raised alarms about another big event Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 which is scheduled to be held at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
While no information or concern has been raised by the ICC regarding the same the authorities can create an issue in hosting those games as a blot has been put on Chinnaswamy after the events in early June this year. Two KSCA officials has already resigned taking moral responsibilty for the incident.
