Former Australian batter Matthew Hayden has opined on Gautam Gambhir’s argument with the Oval pitch curator before the fifth Test between India and England. The incident happened during Team India’s practice session. The Indian head coach pointed his finger at the chief curator Lee Fortis. “Don’t tell us what we need to do and you don’t have any right to tell us. You are just a groundsman,” he said.
India batting coach sitanshu kotak then spoke to fortis.
Hayden said that Gambhir could have acted in a better way but mentioned that the curator was trying to be bossy.
“They were trying to make things difficult for Gautam Gambhir. This is what happens in England. I think Gambhir could have used better language. But his team was training for the most important match of the series,” he said on ‘All Over Bar The Cricket’.
During the same discussion, Greg Blewett also spoke about the verbal slugfest and said that sometimes the curator acts in a strange way and he also gets frustrated as a commentator.
“When I work as a commentator, I stopped from going near the pitch. It is ridiculous. But I agree the language Gambhir used wasn’t great. He could have handled it better,” he said.
Meanwhile, India defeated England by 6 runs on the final day and draw the series 2-2.
