Delhi: Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly said on Sunday that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should play ODI cricket as long as they are doing well. He said, “Kohli’s ODI record is excellent, Rohit also. Both are amazing players in limited overs cricket.”
Ganguly was reacting to media reports, which said that the ODI series to be held in Australia could be the last of this famous pair. To this, he said, “I am not aware of any such thing, I cannot comment.”
According to reports, Australia’s tour in October may be the last as the ODI series for Rohit and Kohli. Both have already played their last matches in T20 and Tests.
This tour of India will start from October 19, in which matches will be played in Perth, Adelaide and Sydney. After this, there will be three domestic ODIs against South Africa in December. The team’s calendar will be full of ODI series against New Zealand, Afghanistan, England, West Indies and New Zealand in 2026.
Ganguly said that India will be a strong contender in the T20 Asia Cup to be held in Dubai from 9 September. He said, “The players are on break after the five -Test series in England. After the IPL, he played great cricket with the red ball, and he is even stronger in the white ball. It will be difficult to defeat India on Dubai’s wickets.”
Regarding Test captain Shubman Gill, Ganguly said, “He is the Test captain of India and his future is bright.”
