Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Carson Ghavri has expressed displeasure over the decision to rename ‘Pataudi Trophy’ to ‘Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy’. He described it as a derogatory step for the cricket heritage of Nawab Pataudi. This new trophy was first played in July-August 2025, which ended at 2-2.

“If Gavaskar had been there, the country would have shaken”

Ghavri questioned how such a decision was passed. Comparing him, he said, “The Australia-West Indies series is always called the Frank Warel Trophy. India-Australia series is called the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. If someone tries to change its name, Gavaskar would shake the whole of India.”

BCCI held responsible

Carson Ghawari blamed the BCCI for silence on the issue. He said that the board should have opposed this decision in front of the MCC and England Cricket Board (ECB). He said, “Tiger Pataudi’s name should never have been removed.”

Questions raised on Sachin Tendulkar

Although Sachin Tendulkar had initially objected to this change, Ghavri felt that he did not take enough strict stand on this issue. He said, “When it was said that the trophy would be named after Tendulkar and Anderson, Sachin should have refused clearly.”

“Should have refused clearly”

Ghavri further said, “It is one thing to object, but Sachin should clearly say that ‘I do not want to give my name because Pataudi Saheb’s name is already connected. He was a great player of Indian cricket.” If you want to give respect, then use the name for medals or other things, the name of the trophy should not have changed. ”

The condition of the first series of the new trophy

For the first time in 2025, a Test series was played between India and England under the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Shubman Gill captained India in this series. England won the first and third Tests, while India won the second and fifth Tests. The fourth match was a draw.
