Delhi: Indian veteran fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah played only three Tests in the recently ended Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. He had already told the selection committee that he would be able to play only three of the five Tests. However, some former cricketers and fans of India believe that Bumrah must have played in the last important Test of the series.

Now the legendary batsman of Team India Sunil Gavaskar has also spoken on this issue. He said that if Bumrah was fit, he should have played the last test at the Oval because the pitch was helpful for the fast bowlers and the series was at stake.

Gavaskar gave a statement on Bumrah

Gavaskar wrote, “No player is mandatory. If Bumrah was fit at that time, he should have played for India. Now the selectors will have to decide when to play Bumrah and when to rest. The next Test match is in early October, then he had full time for rest.”

The former Indian captain believes that Bumrah should be kept away from the useless bilateral white-ball series. He said that India has to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship and the role of Bumrah will be the most important in it. That is why he should play in four domestic Test matches against West Indies and South Africa.

Gavaskar suggested that Bumrah should be rested against Australia from a tournament like the White-Ball Series and Asia Cup so that he can be fully fit for Test cricket.

Bumrah’s workload remained heavy in last season

Last season Bumrah played a lot of cricket. He also played a five -match Test series in Australia with a Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. However, he suffered a back injury in the Sydney Test and was out of the series. India could not win that test and lost the series.

Gavaskar said that whenever the Indian team management and selectors choose the final XI, they should keep in mind what is the best for the team. A player like Bumrah will have to be used carefully so that his best performance can be available for a long time.
