The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced the Indian women’s squad for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup 2025scheduled to begin later this month. The tournament, which promises to be a blockbuster event, will see the best teams in the world vying for the coveted 50-overs trophy. India will begin their campaign on September 30 against Sri Lankahoping to go the distance in what could be a defining tournament for women’s cricket in the country.

Harmanpreet Kaur to lead star studded side

India will be led by Harmanpreet Kaurwith Smriti Mandhana named as her deputy for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2025. The squad is packed with proven performers and rising stars, making it one of the most balanced line-ups in recent years.

The batting unit boasts the likes of Rodrogue, Harleen deoland Yastika bhatia, who will provide depth alongside Smriti and Harmanpreet. In the all-round department, Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana bring invaluable experience, while Amanjot kaur and Kranti gaud add fresh energy.

The bowling attack is equally strong, spearheaded by Renuka Singh Thakur, Radha Yadavand Arundhati Reddywho have all made significant contributions in recent series. With wicketkeepers Richa Ghosh and Yastika offering options behind the stumps, the side appears well-equipped to challenge the best in the world.

Shafali Verma misses out after inconsistent run

One of the major talking points of the announcement was the absence of Shafali Vermawho failed to make the cut both for the World Cup squad and the preparatory series against Australia. Despite returning to the national setup earlier this year and showing glimpses of form with a 75-run knock in England, Shafali’s inconsistent run — including underwhelming performances in the India A tour of Australia — worked against her.

Selection committee chair Neeti Davidhowever, stressed that Shafali remains in India’s long-term plans.

“She’s in the system, not like she’s not. We’ve got our eyes on her. Hopefully, she plays more, garners experience, and it’ll help India in the 50-overs format,” David explained in the presser.

India have had a dominant run in ODIs this year, with series wins over South Africa, New Zealand, West Indiesand Englandalongside a tri-series triumph in Sri Lanka. Their final preparations will be tested in a high-profile ODI series against Australia from September 14 to 20, before heading into the World Cup.
