Spinner Keshav Maharaj bowled brilliantly and shock the first ‘Five-Vicket Hall’ of his ODI career.
Delhi: The South Africa cricket team registered a stunning win by defeating hosts Australia by 98 runs in the first match of the three matches played on Tuesday (August 19). Along with this, the Protiaz team took a 1-0 lead in the series.
Australia won the toss and decided to bowl. Batting first, South Africa scored 296/8 in 50 overs. On behalf of the team, Eden Markram (82), captain Temba Bavuma (65) and Matthew Breetzke (57) scored half -centuries.
Chasing the target, the Australian team collapsed by scoring just 198 runs in 40.5 overs. Except Mitchell Marsh (88), no batsman could play a big innings. South African spinner Keshav Maharaj took 5 wickets while bowling deadly.
Opener Markram played a brilliant innings of 82 runs. This was the 13th half -century of his ODI career and the third half -century against Australia. He hit 9 fours off 81 balls in his innings. So far, Markram has scored 2,454 runs in 78 ODIs.
Young batsman Matthew Breetzke scored the third consecutive 50+ in the third ODI. He scored 57 runs off 56 balls with the help of 7 fours and 1 six. Breetz became the fourth batsman in the world to score 50+ in the first three matches. Before him, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Tom Cooper and Max O’Douud have achieved this feat.
Protiaz captain Bavuma also scored 65 runs in the best innings. This was the 8th of his ODI career and the first half -century against Australia. So far, Bavuma has scored 1,912 runs in 49 matches, including 5 centuries.
Spinner Keshav Maharaj bowled brilliantly and shock the first ‘Five-Vicket Hall’ of his ODI career. He dismissed Marnas Labushen, Cameron Green, Josh English, Alex Carrie and Aaron Hardy. Maharaj took 5 wickets for just 33 runs in 10 overs.
Australian captain Mitchell Marsh scored 88 runs off 96 balls with the help of 10 fours. This was the 20th of his ODI career and the 5th half -century against South Africa. However, his innings could not win the team. Marsh has scored 2,882 runs in 94 ODIs so far.
South Africa has taken an edge in the series with this victory. Now the second ODI match between the two teams is expected to be even more exciting.
