Adam Zampa Fined For Breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI game against South Africa.

It was found that he breached Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which relates to ‘use of an audible obscenity during an international Match.’

One demerit point has been added to Adam Zampa’s disciplinary record, for whom it was the first-offence ina 24-month period.

The incident took place during the 37th over of the Proteas innings in the first ODI during the South Africa tour of Australia 2025 in Cairns, when Adam Zampa used an inappropriate language after a misfield and overthrow off his bowling which was picked up on the stump microphone and broadcast.

Level 1 breach impose a minimum penalty of an official reprimand while maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points.

There was no need for an official hearing as Adam Zampa admitted to his offence and accepted the official sanction as proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

The first ODI ended with South Africa clinching a win by 98 runs, where Zampa contributed 11 runs with the bat and returned figures of 1/58 for Australia.

Batting first South Africa posted a score of 296 runs in their 50 over innings in the aftermath of fifties against Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma and Matthew Breetzke.

Travis Head excelled in bowling department picking four wickets. Despite Mitchell Marsh’s solid 88 run knock, Australia’s middle order failed as they got dismissed cheaply for single digit scores and despite some resistance in the game, Australia scored only 198 runs and lost the game by 98 run victory.

The second ODI of the series will be played on August 22 at Great Barrier Reef ArenaMackay, Queensland.
