In a light-hearted moment on The Hundred broadcast, former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik mentioned that UK fans had even sent complaints to the broadcasters. They were curious about why India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, didn’t smile once during the recently finished Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between India and England.

After Trent Rockets’ seven-wicket victory over Manchester Originals at Trent Bridge, Karthik joked with coach Andy Flower, saying, “Everyone in the UK has been complaining, tweeting, and even writing to Sky Sports. There are three people this summer who just can’t seem to crack a smile. Gautam Gambhir, Nasser Hussain, and you. Why is it that no one can ever catch you smiling when you’re wearing the coach’s hat?” Karthik said, laughing.

Flower, former head coach of England and now leading the Rockets in The Hundred, replied with a laugh, saying, “DK, people totally misunderstand me, you know that for sure.”

Karthik and Flower, who had worked together as part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru support staff during their victorious IPL 2025 campaign, enjoy a strong bond. This interaction reflected their ongoing friendship, providing fans with a rare glimpse into the characters behind the coaching positions.

Trent Rockets’ All-round performance secures convincing win

Asked to bat first, the Originals quickly found themselves under heavy pressure. Captain David Willey led the attack with a brilliant 3/11 from just 20 balls, dismissing Jos Buttler, Ben McKinney, and Rachin Ravindra, leaving the top order in disarray. In the end, the Originals posted a modest total of 98/8.

Lewis Gregory top-scored with 33 off 21 balls, while Jos Buttler made 19 off 16 and Philip Salt contributed 19 off 20 balls. Unfortunately, no other batter was able to make a significant impact.

In reply, the Rockets suffered early setbacks as Joe Root and Tom Banton were dismissed cheaply, but the chase was never truly threatened. Rehan Ahmed, following his outstanding bowling, displayed his all-round capabilities with an unbeaten 45 off 35 balls. Alongside Tom Moores (22*), he guided the Rockets to a convincing victory, with 26 balls remaining.
