Shreyas Iyer was not included in the Asia Cup 2025 squad. Following this, a report by Dainik jagran claimed that the BCCI now wants to make Shreyas Iyer the captain of the Indian ODI team. However, the BCCI has completely denied this report.
BCCI Secretary Devjit saikiawhile speaking to Hindustan Timessaid – “There has been no discussion about making Shreyas Iyer the ODI captain.”
In addition, a board source mentioned that the BCCI wants to have one player as captain across all three formats in the future.
- Currently, Rohit Sharma is the ODI captain,
- Suryakumar Yadav is the T20I captain, and
- Shubman Gill is the Test captain.
The important point here is that the BCCI has hinted that Shubman Gill could be the future all-format captain of India.
