Delhi: The online gaming industry has recently suffered a major setback. The chief sponsor Dream-11 of the Indian cricket team has decided to make significant changes before the Asia Cup 2025. According to reports, the logo of Dream-11 will not be seen on Team India’s jersey in the Asia Cup starting on 9 September.

Online gaming bill makes challenge for Dream-11

This decision has been taken after the recently passed online gaming bill 2025. Under this bill, real-mani gaming platforms, including Dream-11, have been banned.

67% of Dream-11’s revenue came from this model, in which users used to make fantasy teams by investing money and received cash prizes on winning. After the implementation of the new law, this business model became illegal, due to which the company had to stop its operation.

358 crore deal with BCCI stops

Dream-11 signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with BCCI in 2023, which was valid until 2026. Under this deal, BCCI used to get Rs 3 crore for domestic matches and Rs 1 crore for foreign matches.

After the law came into force, this agreement has ended prematurely. Now BCCI is preparing to start the tender process in search of new sponsors.

Dream-11’s new focus: Non-Re-Right Money Projects

The company has now decided to pay attention to the non-real money gaming ventures by changing its strategy. This includes promoting sports drip, fankode and other investment, such as Willow TV and Cricbuzz.

Big impact on Indian gaming industry

India’s online gaming market is about Rs 32,000 crore, out of which 86% of revenue came from real-mani gaming. This figure is set to change after the new law. This step can affect about two lakh jobs and the government may suffer heavy losses in tax.

Law gets President’s approval

This bill has been approved by the President on 22 August 2025, after which this law has been made. The government says that this step has been taken to bring discipline in the gaming industry and give it a new direction.
