Former Sri Lanka all-rounder Farveez Maharoof has heaped massive praise on Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who will play in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. He was rested from two out of five Tests against England, and the selectors decided to include him in the squad for the Continental Cup. The right-arm pacer will lead the bowling attack in the UAE.

Maharoof recalled facing Bumrah in the Champions League T20. “His action makes him effective. I played against him in the Champions League, around 2013 or 2014. He has improved a lot and doesn’t rely only on inswing deliveries to the right-handers. He has developed outswing as well. If you ask ninety percent of the batters around the world, they will say Jasprit Bumrah is the most difficult bowler to face across formats,” Maharoof told India Today.

Maharoof also highlighted the reason for the pacer’s injuries and urged the BCCI to manage his workload.

“He has back issues and keeps getting injured. The BCCI will have to manage his workload carefully. It is important to maximise his international career. When a fast bowler delivers a ball, it puts pressure on the back, knees and ankles. Bumrah is one of a kind bowler and players like him don’t come very often,” he added.

Maharoof also stated that injuries are part and parcel of the game. “Injuries are bound to happen. Jaspit Bumrah played five Tests in England and bowled a lot of overs. He got injured in the Sydney Test. No matter how much you train, injuries are inevitable because fast bowling is not easy. I hope he keeps playing for India and maintains his hunger for wickets. I hope he is looked after,” he concluded.
