Delhi: Cheteshwar Pujara, the trusted number 3 batsman of Team India, surprised everyone by announcing his retirement from cricket. After his decision, many veterans, including Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh, said that a special phase of Test cricket has come to an end with a player like Pujara.
In an interview after retirement, Pujara also talked about captain Shubman Gill and the current Team India. He was asked who will be the next Mr. Dependel (trusted) batsman of Team India after you. To this he said, “I do not want to put any pressure on any player, so I will not choose any one player. But, this young Indian team is very talented. We have recently seen the results in England, and the way everyone is playing, I think it is a wonderful test lineup because our batsmen are doing well.”
The former batsman further said, “Our bowlers are doing well, and even all -rounders are contributing. If the team continues to play like this, then the coming years can be very good for India.”
On being called ‘Mr. Truthmand’ and comparison with Rahul Dravid, Pujara said, “I always considered Rahul Bhai as my ideal. I have learned a lot from him. When I started playing at number three, I never saw myself compared to him. I just wanted to play with him.”
He said, “When I made a debut in 2010, there were big names like Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag, Gambhir, Dhoni in that team. I got a lot to learn a lot and he became my cricket journey.”
