Rohit Sharma ended his Test career before the five-match Test series against England. He retired from T20Is after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup. There are speculations about his future in one-day internationals and whether he would be allowed to be a part of the Men in Blue squad till the 2027 World Cup. He recently hinted at why he walked away from red-ball cricket.
In an interaction at a CEAT event, he said that playing Test cricket is mentally challenging and draining. He couldn’t withstand the demands and requirements of five-day cricket. Rohit also highlighted how club cricket helped him to deal with tough situations.
“Test cricket demands longevity. You have to last for five days. It is mentally challenging and draining,” Rohit Sharma said.
“Club matches go on for two or three days in Mumbai. We have been trained in that way. It helps you to deal with long matches and how to act during tough situations,” he added.
Meanwhile, BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla has refuted the reports of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s retirement after the ODI series in Australia in October.
“Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will play ODIs, and there is no need to talk about their farewell. People shouldn’t be worried about them. BCCI never tells players to retire. They are free to make the decisions,” he said.
