Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has officially called time on his Indian Premier League (IPL) career. The 37-year-old took to social media to share an emotional message, confirming that while his IPL journey has ended, he is excited to begin a new chapter playing in different leagues around the world.
In his tweet, Ashwin reflected on the journey that began back in 2009 and thanked all the franchisees he represented over the years, along with the IPL and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
He also expressed gratitude towards the fans, teams, and officials who were part of his 15-year-long IPL career, highlighting the cherished memories and friendships he made during the tournament.
“They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today. Would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years and most importantly the @IPL and the @BCCI for what they have given me until now. Look forward to enjoying and making the most of what’s ahead of me,” wrote Ashwin on X (formerly Twitter).
Ashwin, who made his IPL debut with Chennai Super Kings (CSK)went on to become one of the most successful spinners in the league’s history. Known for his variations and tactical sharpness, he played key roles for CSK, Rising Pune Supergiants, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals. Interestingly, he came back to CSK in the IPL 2025 auction.
In his IPL career, Ashwin featured in 220 matches, picking 187 wickets, while also contributing with the bat in crucial situations. He was part of CSK’s title-winning squads in 2010 and 2011, and later captained Punjab in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
