Overview:

According to reports, the relationship between Sanju Samson and the Rajasthan Royals soured during the last IPL season.

Sanju Samson’s potential trade has been a topic of discussion, with speculation reigniting almost every week. Most discussions have focused on the likelihood of Samson moving to either Chennai Super Kings or Kolkata Knight Riders. In July, reports suggested that CSK were actively exploring the idea of bringing Samson on board before the new IPL season, and a possible agreement with Rajasthan Royals was being considered.

Later in the month, Samson is said to have asked Rajasthan Royals to either let him go before the auction or trade him to a different franchise. Despite this, the Royals remain firmly committed to keeping him and are doing everything possible to ensure he stays.

Recently, a video shared by Rajasthan Royals gained widespread attention online. It showed Samson in full training mode while wearing the Royals’ jersey. The clip also celebrated his impressive performance in the Kerala Cricket League, where he scored three consecutive fifties.

What really sparked fan conversations, though, was the caption on the post. The Royals’ admin labelled the clip “Sanju Samson (C),” which many interpreted as a subtle indication that the franchise intends to keep him as captain for the next IPL season or that a mutual understanding has already been reached.

Why is Samson keen to leave Rajasthan Royals?

According to reports, the relationship between Sanju Samson and the Rajasthan Royals soured during the last IPL season. Though he has served as captain for several years, sources suggest that in the 2025 edition, Samson felt sidelined, with many of his decisions not receiving the weight they deserved.

Samson has a strong preference for opening the batting in T20s. However, an injury kept him out of part of the season, giving the team a chance to try a new opening combination of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, which turned out to be highly successful.

Once fit, Samson hoped to return to his usual spot at the top of the order. Instead, the team management retained the new pair and slotted him in at number three. This move reportedly became a major point of contention and is believed to have intensified his desire to part ways with the franchise.
