Who is Danish Malewar? 21-Year-Old Vidarbha Star Shined During Duleep Trophy Debut

The 21-year-old Vidarbha batter Danish Malewar has grabbed the spotlight during this Duleep Trophy debut, scoring a double ton for Central Zone against North East Zone, marking his arrival with authority on one of India’s premier red-ball cricket.

He went on to achieve in quick time at the start of Day 02 play in the Duleep Trophy 2025 against the Northeast Zone in Bengaluru. After reaching his 200 off 220 balls, which included 36 fours and a six.

Malewar retired out on 203, short of before he became one of the fastest Indians to reach 1000 runs in First-Class cricket in only 16 innings.

With the help of Danish’s innings, Central Zone declared the innings after scoring 532 runs. Apart from Danish, team captain Rajat Patidar also played an important role. He scored 125 runs in 96 balls.

Patidar’s innings included 21 fours and three sixes. Yash Rathod contributed 87 runs. Opener Aryan Juyal retired hurt after scoring 60 runs.

Meanwhile, Akash Chaudhary took two wickets and Ferizam Jotin took one wicket. The team is in strong position due to Danish.

Danish Malewar Family and Early Career

Malewar’s father Vishnu was a cricket fan. He had always thought that if he had a son, he would make him a cricketer.

Despite a poor financial condition, Danish told his father put him in an academy when he was just seven years old. While playing for junior cricket, people would give him used bats, pants and gloves.

After becoming a part of the U-19 team, Danish Malewar got his financial help and things became a little easier for him.

Danish Malewar’s Cricketing career

Danish Malewar made his first class debut in the 2024 Ranji Trophy, where he played innings for Vidarbha.

He grabbed attention during 2024 Ranji Trophy semifinal against Mumbai where he scored a valiant 79 runs in the first innings and followed by a 29 run in the second innings, knocks that helped Vidarbha secured an 80-run win and a place in the final.

The summit clash then became the stage for his real breakout. Against Kerala, he smashed 153 in the first innings and 73 in the second single handedly tilting the game Vidarbha’s way and sealing another Ranji Trophy title for the side.

By the end of season, Danish Malewar scored up 783 runs at an average of 52, finishing as Vidarbha’s third highest scorer. For someone barely into his twenties, those numbers spoke volumes about his temperament and hunger for big runs.

In his first class career, he has played a total of 10 matches. He has scored 986 runs at an average of 55. He had four centuries and two half centuries to his name. Now a double century has been included in the list.
