Rajasthan Royals have confirmed that head coach Rahul Dravid has left the franchise. He was offered a new role but the veteran didn’t accept the offer.

“Rahul has been central to the Royals’ journey over many years. His leadership has influenced a generation of players, built strong values within the squad, and left an indelible mark on the culture of the franchise,” the release stated.

“As part of the franchise structural review Rahul had been offered a broader position at the franchise, but has chosen not to take this. The Rajasthan Royals, its players, and millions of fans worldwide extend heartfelt thanks to Rahul for his remarkable service to the franchise.”

According to reports, RR captain Sanju Samson was not pleased with Dravid, after the former was demoted from the opening slot.

He was associated with Rajasthan between 2011 and 2015 as player and coach, before returning to the franchise after leading India to a T20 World Cup title. However, his comeback was not impressive as Rajasthan finished ninth with only four wins in 14 games.

Dravid was confined to a wheelchair after injuring his foot while playing a match in Bengaluru.

The 2008 champions could appoint a new head coach or hand the responsibility to Kumar Sangakkara.
