An anecdote to this recently shared in a conversation with Indian spinner Rahul Chahar. Talking about the match between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings in 2020, he said that he had dismissed Dhoni, but did not celebrate it. Chahar said that if a young player celebrates Dhoni’s wicket, then people get angry and often say abusive words.
Rahul said, “When I dismissed Mahi Bhai in 2020, people praised me because I did not celebrate. All Mahi Bhai in India considers Mahi Bhai as legend. If a young boy celebrates his wicket, people say, ‘Who are you in front of them?’ And then you get to hear abusive words. “

The figures of Dhoni and Chahar’s clash have also been interesting. In the last six IPL innings, Dhoni has scored 19 runs in just 34 balls against Chahar and has become his victim twice. During this time his strike rate has been just 55.9.
However, in IPL 2025, Rahul Chahar got a chance to play in just one match for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He threw an over and conceded 9 runs. So far Chahar has taken 75 wickets in a total of 79 IPL matches at an average of 28.67.
