The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the India A squad for the upcoming ODI series against Australia A, which is set to be played in Kanpur.
However, the selectors have named two leaders for the series. Rajat Patidar will captain the side in the opening match, while Tilak Varma will be leading the side in the rest of the games, with Patidar serving as his deputy.
The squad includes a lot of young talents from the domestic circuit and IPL – Riyan Parag, Ayush Badoni, Ravi Bishnoi, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh.
Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh and pacer Harshit Rana will be joining the squad for the last two games.
However, to the suprise, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has not been named in the squad. Both players has cleared routine fitness tests, with Kohli in London and Rohit Sharma at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to return to the side during the Australia tour, where they will be playing three ODIs.
“See it’s highly unlikely that they will play the three India A games. Only if they need some game time, you could see them play one, or even two, before the Australia ODIs. But noting has been finalised yet,” said a BCCI official.
