Delhi: The third and last match of the three matches of T20 International series between England and South Africa was canceled in Nottingham due to rain without toss. With this, this exciting series of three matches ended at 1-1 and both teams shared the trophy.
The first match of the series played in Cardiff also affected the rain. The England team failed to pursue a minor target by South Africa and with the help of Duckworth Lewis Rules (DLS), the Protiaz team won by 14 runs.
England made a tremendous comeback in the second match played in Manchester. The hosts scored a score of 304/2, the biggest score made by any full ICC member in T20 International cricket. England then defeated South Africa by 146 runs, which proved to be South Africa’s biggest defeat in this format.
The rain broke the expectations of the decisive match. The match could not start due to continuous rains. After the match was canceled, England captain Harry Brook described his first captaincy experience as positive. He said, “The previous match was fantastic. It is sad not to have a game today. But, there is a lot of confidence for the future. Phil Salt and Jose have full faith. It will not happen for the last time, when we will touch the 300 figure. It was my first summer captaincy and it was a good experience.”
South Africa captain Eden Markram insisted on the learning from the series. He said, “In the first match (England) was settled quickly and we were completely defeated in the second.
It is worth noting that earlier South Africa had defeated England 2–1 in the ODI series, but the T20 International Series between the two teams ended at 1-1.
