Pathum Nissanka’s solid knock has set up Sri Lanka’s thrilling 4-wicket victory in the Asia Cup 2025 game against Hong Kong on September 15 at Dubai.
His 68 runs off 44 deliveries have put a solid base for the side to overcome the middle-order collapse, along with Wanindu Hasaranga’s cameo at the end.
With this win, Sri Lanka claimed the top spot in Group B of the Asia Cup 2025 points table.
Batting first, Zeeshan Ali and Anshuman Rath opened the innings for Hong Kong while Nuwan Thushara opened the attack.
The openers went on to make 41 runs for the first wicket before Chameera dismissed Zeeshan Ali for 23 runs.
With Anshuman Rath and Hayat at the crease, Hong Kong went on to score 42 runs in the powerplay.
With the dismissal of Hayat for 4 runs by Hasaranga, Chameera bagged the wicket of Anshuman Rath for 48 runs.
However, Nizakat Khan made solid knock scoring 52* runs off 38 deliveries which helped the Hong Kong to post 149 runs in their 20 over innings.
Chameera bagged two wickets while Wanindu Hasaranga and Shanaka bagged one wicket each.
In the pursuit of chasing 150 runs, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis opened the innings while, Yasim Murtaza opened the bowling attack.
Ayush Shukla opened his tally picking the wicket of Kusal Mendis for 11 runs. With Nissanka and Kamil Mishara at the crease Sri Lanka went on to score 35 runs in the powerplay.
Aizaz Khan picked the wicket of Kamil Mishara while Nissanka lost his wicket for 68 runs on a run out. Kusal Perera’s dismissal for 20 runs did have impact on the side as they lost back to back wickets of Charith Asalanka and Kamindu Mendis for 2 and 5 runs respectively.
Wanindu Hasaranga’s cameo in the final phase of the innings, has secured a thrilling 4 wicket victory for Sri Lanka.
Pathum Nissanka was named as the Player of the Match. Speaking on the post match conference, Nissanka said, “It was not an easy pitch. Hong Kong bowled well. Happy with the way am batting.”
Sri Lanka will play their next game against Afghanistan on September 18 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
