Defending champion Australia is in a “great spot as a team” as it finalises preparations for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup in India, according to skipper Alyssa Healy. The wicketkeeper-batter, leading the side in her third World Cup, believes the squad is well-balanced and well-prepared after spending valuable time together.

Australia’s build-up has been extensive, with the team coming off a successful bilateral series against host India. “We couldn’t be more excited to be over here in India finalising our preparations for the World Cup,” Healy wrote in a column released by the ICC.

“It’s a great place to play and somewhere we’re all reasonably familiar with.”

The lead-up series has offered the team a crucial chance to acclimatise to local conditions and test its depth. “The three ODIs against India in the lead-up will give us the chance to acclimatise and put the finishing touches on our preparation,” she added.

Healy also highlighted the balanced nature of the squad. “Our group is incredibly well balanced with plenty of youth to complement the more experienced players, and while for some it’ll be their first ODI World Cup, they’ve all had exposure to major tournaments and high-pressure series.”

A major boost for the team is the return of left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux, who has overcome a knee injury. “She’s had a rough run with injuries, so it’ll be great to see her back in the green and gold throughout the World Cup.”

Healy is also relishing the unique format of the tournament. “What I love most about ODI World Cups is being able to play every side, knowing that you have to beat every team in the World to lift that trophy makes them tough to win,” she said.

“We know we have to play consistently throughout and each and every game is important. Our group is looking forward to that challenge and can’t wait to get going!”
