Bird breathed his home on Tuesday 23 September at the age of 92. Information about the death of the bird playing first class cricket for Yorkshire was given by the County Club itself. Bird, a right -handed batsman, played for 4 seasons for Lestershare after spending 3 years in Yorokshar but did not change the luck here and that was the reason that he retired from cricket at the age of 32 years.

At the age of just 37, he first umpiring in the county championship match in 1970 and then he started umpiring in Test cricket. His Test umpiring career began with the 1973 Leeds Test match between England and New Zealand and then he remained the world's most famous umpire till 1996.
