Lyon has performed exceptionally well on home soil, having taken 268 of his 562 Test wickets at an average of 31.08.
Nathan Lyon made a big remark on England’s composition for the upcoming Ashes against Australia. He mentioned that a spinner is needed, considering the help for the slow bowlers. If the spinner is not added, it would be a big mistake. England announced a pace-dominated attack for the five-Test series, which is scheduled to start in Perth on 21 November.
Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Josh Tongue, Brydon Carse, and Mark Wood are the pacers, while captain Ben Stokes and seamer Matthew Potts offer additional backing. The 16-man squad includes just one specialist spinner, Shoaib Bashir, with all-rounder Will Jacks serving as his sole backup.
“For me, having a spinner in every team is important as their variation alters the pace of the game.I think a spinner can be highly effective in Australia,” Lyon said.
“Honestly, (England’s squad) is exactly what we anticipated. The entire squad is very aggressive, especially with their fast bowlers,” Lyon added.
It remains to be seen whether England will choose an all-pace attack in Perth as they are aware that their spinners have often faced challenges in Australian conditions.
In contrast, Lyon has performed exceptionally well on home soil, having taken 268 of his 562 Test wickets at an average of 31.08.
England are aiming to secure their first Ashes victory since 2015, having failed to win a Test series in Australia since their triumph in the 2010/11 season.
