Overview:

Mohammed Siraj has cemented his spot at the top of the wicket charts in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.

Mohammed Siraj produced a fiery spell in the first Test against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Fresh from a superb tour of England, where he topped the wicket charts with 23 scalps, the pacer was superb in the first innings of the series opener.

Siraj dismantled the West Indies’ batting line-up, striking three times before the Lunch break.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Brandon King and Alick Athanaze fell to his pace and movement. After the interval, he returned to dismiss Roston Chase, collecting his fourth wicket and leaving the visitors tottering at 105 for 6.

The pressure did not ease, as Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with wickets.

Mohammed Siraj etched his name into the record books. He became the first bowler from the World Test Championship nations to reach 30 Test wickets this year, surpassing Mitchell Starc, who has picked up 29 wickets.

Matches Wickets Bowler
7 31 Mohammed Siraj
7 29 Mitchell Starc
6 24 Shamar Joseph
3 22 Nathan Lyon
4 21 Josh Tongue

Mohammed Siraj has cemented his spot at the top of the wicket charts in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.

So far, he has picked up 27 wickets in the 2025–2027 campaign, and remains the only bowler to notch up two four-wicket spells along with a pair of five-wicket hauls.

Despite being left out of India’s Asia Cup squad, Siraj responded in style. His current form makes it difficult for the selectors to overlook him in any format. With India set to tour Australia for three ODIs and five T20Is, Siraj is expected to lead the fast-bowling unit, especially if Jasprit Bumrah is rested during the series.
