England delivered a dominant performance in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025thrashing South Africa by 10 wickets in the 4th match at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

South Africa collapse to 69 all out

Opting to bowl first, Nat Sciver-Brunt’s side completely outplayed South Africa, bundling them out for just 69 runs in 20.4 overs.

South Africa’s innings never got going as only Sinalo Jafta (22 off 36) offered some resistance. Captain Laura Wolvaardt, Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon all fell cheaply, leaving South Africa reeling under pressure. England’s bowlers maintained relentless discipline, not allowing any partnerships to flourish.

Left-arm spinner Linsey Smith was the standout bowler for England, producing a dream spell of 3/7 in 4 overs to dismantle South Africa’s middle order.

She was well-supported by Nat Sciver (2/5) and Sophie Ecclestone (2/19), while Charlotte Dean chipped in with 2/14.

Smith set the tone early before Lauren Bell and Sciver took over, leaving South Africa no room to recover. The Proteas lost wickets in clusters, with their last five batters adding only 17 runs.

England openers complete the chase comfortably

Chasing a paltry total of 70, England openers made sure there were no hiccups. Amy Jones top-scored with 40 off 50 balls, hitting six boundaries, while Tammy Beaumont played a steady knock of 21 off 35.

The pair put on an unbroken 73-run partnership to wrap up the chase in just 14.1 oversensuring a massive net run rate boost for England early in the tournament.

Player of the Match

For her brilliant figures of 3/7, Linsey Smith was named Player of the Match. Her spell turned the game decisively in England’s favour, making it impossible for South Africa to stage a comeback.

With this victory, England opened their World Cup campaign in style, showcasing both bowling firepower and batting composure. South Africa, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly after a crushing defeat and find answers to their batting frailties.

The result further cements England’s credentials as one of the strongest contenders for the Women’s World Cup 2025 crown.
