Rishabh Pant, recovering from a foot injury, is looking forward to returning to red-ball cricket. After suffering a fracture during India’s 5-Test tour of England, Pant hopes to feature in the Ranji Trophy. The Times of India reported that the BCCI medical team may give their approval for his return by October 10.
Pant’s injury occurred in the Manchester Test on July 24 when he attempted a reverse sweep and was struck on the right foot. Although scans revealed a fracture in his toe, Pant made a courageous return to bat when India needed him the most.
He was ruled out of the remainder of the series.Surgery wasn’t required for the wicketkeeper, but he was put in a cast for the healing process. He started light training in September and has shown significant improvement.
“A decision on his return could be made by October 10. An assessment is scheduled this week. It’s been a prolonged recovery for him, and the BCCI medical team doesn’t want to take any risks,” a BCCI official told TOI.
Pant will be available for the Ranji matches beginning October 25.
But the final verdict will depend on the assessments by the BCCI medical team.According to a Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) official, Pant is set to lead the Delhi team in the Ranji Trophy if he makes his return.
Pant was not considered for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Australia. However, if the left-handed batter regains full fitness, he could be recalled for the home Test series against South Africa.
