Delhi: India’s star batsman Shreyas Iyer is ready to make a great comeback in international cricket this year. He told how he did not lose courage and proved himself again even after being out of the central contract of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last year.

After March 2025, now in October, Shreyas will be seen playing international matches again after about seven months. He has been made the vice-captain of the Indian ODI team for the Australia tour. The first ODI between India and Australia will be played on 19 October.

Shreyas’s brilliant performance in the Champions Trophy

Iyer was honored for his excellent performance in the Champions Trophy at the CEAT Cricket Ratings Awards held in Mumbai. He scored 243 runs in 5 innings in this tournament. His average was 48.60 and he scored two half-centuries. His best score was 79 runs. His role was very important in India’s victory.

Iyer told that he understands the situation while playing and tries to perform by putting himself under pressure. “In the Champions Trophy, we had to play cautiously in the beginning and then gradually hit big shots. We thought that if we can score 250-300, we can win. My responsibility was to take the team there. I had full faith in my bowlers and fielding.”

Iyer worked hard in domestic cricket

Iyer told that at one time his career seemed scattered. He said, “I told myself to make a routine, be disciplined and play domestic cricket.”

After this, he performed brilliantly for Mumbai by captaining him in Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He said that playing well in these tournaments gave him confidence again. He further strengthened his comeback by scoring 181 runs in the ODI against England.

Apart from this, he took Punjab Kings (PBKS) to the finals of IPL 2025.

Shreyas replied to the critics

It has been said against Iyer that he is weak in playing short ball or pull shot. On this he said, “People used to say that I cannot play some shots. But, I worked hard on myself. Practiced, faced fast bowlers. Put myself under pressure and proved myself.”

Now he is all set to play in the ODI series against Australia. So far he has played 3 ODIs in Australia, in which he has scored 59 runs at an average of 19.66. This year in 2025, he has scored 424 runs in 8 ODIs. His average is 53.00 and strike rate is 93.59. He has scored 5 half-centuries and the best score has been 79.
